CMA & CCMA
Congrats to Shania on her win in the CCMA for the Video of the Year (If you're not in it for love), Female vocalist of the year and Entertainer of the Year. They are richly deserved, I cheered for her for every award she won!
Admittedly, Shania's performance in the CCMA wasn't very good, I think she tried too hard and tried a different style. It didn't work. Shania can be very good live, however, consistency is lacking. As she can produce some show-stopping stuff in one performance, while on others, it is most definitely very mediocre. In her acceptance speech for the video of the year, she wore a beautiful purple dress and basically thanked her fans and CMT, TNN...etc. Also she said that let's hope she was just getting started. Shania was definitely more emotional when she received the female vocalist of the year award. Where she said "Oh, I am speechless, it's really hard to put this overwhelming experience within 30 seconds I really am.... I just want to say the life of this album had been amazing, I never really expected to win this award again."
The best performance of the evening was by, in my opinion, Michelle Wright, "Nobody's Girl" is a great song, well what do you expect from Gretchen Peters? Paul Gross was a very good host, he obviously likes Shania quite a lot. As at the end of Shania's performance he said, "Well, that was another great moment for Women in Canadian Country Music...... It was pretty good for Canadian men!" Not just Canadian men, Paul! ;-) Also, I just realize how SMALL Shania is in size!
Now on to the CMA, I must say that in my opinion, the best performance of the evening was by Shania with as in Vince Gill's word "The unbelievably great Take Six". They performed the revamp version of God Bless The Child, in what was a 1:30 single, it is now 3:50. You can see the lyric to the song here. However, if it is true that this is the special single Shania was working on, then I was slightly disappointed in hearing it so early!
Shania should definitely won something in the CMA award. I felt she should have won the female vocalist of the year award. Despite saying this, Patty is a deserving candidate and should have won this a long time ago. The Horizon award should almost definitely not have gone to Bryan White.
I think the reason Shania didn't win the any award was due to the way CMA awards are decided. It is an exclusively CMA member only affair. Now, as everybody probably knows, Shania is seen as an outsider in Nashville. This is going to hurt her chances as talented and great Shania is. There's no way that she is going to get the popularity vote needed to get the extra mileage to win the awards. I think give it another year or so, with the new album coming out soon and tour starting soon. There will be no more excuses to not giving Shania an award.
Incidentally, in my opinion, the next Shania album will be great. As the new material shown by Shania was very good and it seems that the creative juice still flow! Shania this year, have proved to everybody that she is more than a flash in a pan and I wish they can stop attacking her on this.
